Food Quality Matters Especially for Your ChildThere is a new report that baby and toddler foods from Big Food are often loaded with heavy toxic metals. Leading baby food manufacturers knowingly sold products with high levels of toxic metals; a congressional investigation has found.

This helps explain why over 50% of our children have a chronic illness.

Toxic load = inflammation= chronic disease

Toxic metals interrupt health in all people but when they are in food and substances for a child, their little bodies cannot block the effects, and the toxins are able to go right through the brain barrier.

Toxic load for a child begins before conception.

Babies today are being born with 287 toxins right at the point of birth. Of the 287 chemicals that have been detected in umbilical cord blood, we know that 180 cause cancer in humans or animals, 217 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development in animal tests. Right from the start, an infant starts with a significant toxic load directly at the point of birth.

This occurs if you, the parent, were not eating clean and your life and your spouse’s life were laden with toxins when you conceived. My surprise was that research showed that both the mother’s toxicity before conception and the father’s toxicity impacted the toxicity of the baby at birth.

It also increases if you were not eating “clean” and were around a lot of toxins in your food, your cosmetics, your water, and your cleaning supplies prebirth.

Once born, it is increasingly important to limit toxins in the child’s food and environment.

  • A developing child’s chemical exposures are greater pound-for-pound than those of adults.
  • “An immature, porous blood-brain barrier allows higher chemical exposures to the developing brain.
  • “Children have lower levels of some chemical-binding proteins, allowing more of a chemical to reach ‘target organs.’
  • “A baby’s organs and systems are rapidly developing, and thus are often more vulnerable to damage from chemical exposure.
  • “Systems that detoxify and excrete industrial chemicals are not fully developed.
  • “The longer future life span of a child compared to an adult allows more time for adverse effects to arise.”

By the time a child is 5, they have eaten 7 pounds of toxins, according to Mark Hymen, MD, a leading functional practitioner. No wonder they are getting ill, their little bodies cannot handle all these toxins.

It is inexcusable that Big Food has been allowing heavy toxic metals to be present in baby food. All these companies were aware of the toxic metals in their food, they choose not to clean them up.

The article sites that all the big companies, Gerber, Beechnut, and Hain and Happy Baby products allowed excessive amounts of heavy toxic metals in their food. “Dangerous levels of toxic metals like arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury exist in baby foods at levels that exceed what experts and governing bodies say is permissible,” said Democratic Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, chair of the House Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, which conducted the investigation, signed by the Democratic members.

Heavy toxic metals interrupt all body functions. The liver tries to handle them until they are in too great a quantity in the body and then the liver sends them off to be stored in the baby’s bones and fat. Eventually, they start leaching out and circulate through the child’s body again. They are difficult to detox out of the body, and they can do lasting damage over multiple years.

Remember, Big Food is in the business to make a profit. They are not in the business to promote health. The solution is for you to control what you and your family eat. Stop eating processed foods and fast foods which are fast, cheap, easy, and fake. Processed foods offer little if any nutrition because most are loaded with synthetic ingredients. If you cannot pronounce the item on the label, or if you do not know what it is (like natural flavorings) then your body does not know what that ingredient is either.

My second book, Feeling Good Living Low Toxin, a Mom’s Choice Gold Winner has an entire section on how to raise healthy children in the 21st Century. I added it to that book because I was stunned when I learned that over 50% of our children have a chronic illness.

For health, to raise healthy children, you need to cook so that you control what you are feeding your child. Make sure that you are feeding your child organic. You should be buying the rainbow from a farm as close to you as possible and you should be feeding your family the entire rainbow. The phytonutrients work together in synergy to create health.

Why organic?

Your family does not need a dose of pesticides or herbicides in their food. “cides” are used in conventional farming.

With a couple of kitchen machines, you can pulverize organic real food from the entire rainbow to feed to your infant or toddler. A bullet would do that trick, or what I call my mini chop by Cuisinart; it is a small food processor that I use to chop herbs and garlic for cooking, but which is also the perfect size to make baby food with real fruits and vegetables that are loaded with beautiful phytonutrients. There are several organic cookbooks for infants and toddlers available on Amazon. This way you are feeding your child all the building blocks that the body needs to replenish. Every cell has a shelf life, so you want the absolute best possible building supplies in your child’s body for their growing years. You also want every cell in your child’s body nourished with real phytonutrients.

“A healthy diet can have a profound effect on children’s health, helping to maintain a healthy weight, avoid certain health problems, stabilize their moods, and sharpen their minds. A healthy diet can also have a profound effect on a child’s sense of mental and emotional wellbeing, helping to prevent conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and ADHD.” Jeanne Segal Ph.D. and Lawrence Robinson

A healthy diet will increase their ability to think and to learn. A healthy diet will help them maintain a healthy physical and mental body. I will help the child’s body ward off disease. It really will not take you that much longer to prepare “real” food than to open a jar of baby food with suspicious ingredients. Now you are making homemade food that is loaded with nutrition. With planning and experience, there is a rhythm to cooking real food, and the outcome is worth it.

You should be feeding yourself and the rest of your family real food as well. Plan and prepare ahead to save yourself time. Use glass containers in the fridge. Freeze extra for future feedings.

Remember. heavy toxic metals interrupt all body functions. The liver tries to handle them until they are in too great a quantity in the body and then the liver sends them off to be stored in the baby’s bones and fat. Eventually, they start leaching out and circulate through the child’s body again. The toxic impact on the body continues over the months and years to come.

When toxic load builds up in the child and goes over the top is when the chronic illnesses begin.

Cook. Eat real organic food. Feed your families real organic food. It will impact their entire life positively. It is worth it!
