I grew up in Texas in a family food business. Our family had a small grocery store, restaurant, and food manufacturing business specializing in Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern foods. My education was in business courses that prepared me to take over the family business one day, but my father did not want his family in the business, so I had to start my own company when I graduated from business school with an M.B.A. in business management/finance.

After struggling for years, one day I learned that my father died at his store and that there was no one to take it over. It was ironic that my father left me in charge in his will, so I took over the day after he passed away. The business was in turmoil, and it took a significant effort and time to scale it down and liquidate its assets.

My father’s employees at the time thought they saw him in one of his buildings after he passed away. The silhouette lingered, and it gave me cause to investigate the phenomenon. I had psychics visit the property, and they felt it was correct that he was in the building as a spirit.

I liked the psychics I met and decided to take psychic development classes. It was there that my new career as a psychic and writer started. The testing that I took in the classes demonstrated that I had a natural affinity for this type of work. It took years of practicing my skills before I decided to become a full-time psychic medium.

The family business was in West Dallas, an impoverished area of the City of Dallas, and I met other local business professionals who wanted to change the area for the better. I joined a local business association and became active with it. The business association needed upgrading, so when I had a chance to be in a leadership position, I was instrumental in upgrading it to a chamber of commerce.

Forming a chamber of commerce proved to be a catalyst for positive change for the area and for the City of Dallas. A building and housing boom paralleled the growth of the chamber, and I served as the chairperson and president of the organization for six years. During my tenure, there was the construction of a Signature Bridge for Dallas, and the chamber was instrumental in getting street and infrastructure improvements for the bridge landing in West Dallas. The improvements were significant because prior to the chamber’s efforts, the area receiving the bridge had not improved for decades.

This was a historic task since West Dallas was prone to flooding, was crime-ridden, and was the fourth-poorest urban area in the United States. The efforts brought millions of dollars of infrastructure and investments to this part of the city.

I served as the chairperson of the chamber until I was term-limited. It was then that I retired from the chamber and local politics. The chamber changed its mission after I left the organization in 2009 but continues as a volunteer endeavor.

After leaving the chamber, I focused on my duties as a single parent and professionally became a full-time psychic medium. This was a logical move for me since I was accustomed to being self-employed and had a talent that was rare.

Once I made a commitment to my new career, I competed in competitions and won or placed in them. I became the number one male psychic and number two medium in the United States in 2017 in a national competition. This award is in addition to 18 literary awards for my eight books. I have a national and international clientele that continues to grow.

In addition to providing psychic services and books, I produce a weekly internet radio/tv podcast on the A1R Psychic Radio Network and Moonstruck TV.

Today, I appear around Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Kansas speaking and performing as a psychic medium. (For more information about him, you can visit his site: www.johncappello.com.)

My hobbies include raising tropical fish, coin collecting, and crystal collecting. I have been married to my beautiful wife Natalie for 10 years and live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

MCA: Your focus on improving a poorer community in Texas is inspiring. I’m wondering what your path to becoming a writer was like—what motivated you there?

This began when clients were asking me to teach them about developing their psychic abilities. The first two books I wrote were about the perceptions of psychic ability and how to develop it. The third book was client inspired by observing the different areas of grief that my clients were experiencing and my desire to address them.

MCA: Please tell us your inspiration for writing your first children’s book, Mom! There’s an Angel in the Kitchen!

The inspiration for writing Mom! There’s an Angel in the Kitchen! was my belief that angels play a part in our lives from an early age. I believe that children should be believed when they experience imaginary friends or when they see angels. This book acknowledges a child’s experiences, and it uses the opportunity to instill traditional values at the same time.

MCA: Angels appear to be a popular theme in children’s books. What are some of the lessons found in your book?

The key lessons of the book are respecting the innocence of a child, teaching good behavior in a non-denominational religious style, and the timeless nature of angels. The main lesson of the book is that traditional values are timeless.

MCA: What has the response been like from readers?

The response from readers has been incredibly positive because it promotes traditional values in an entertaining poem and does not have a political or religious agenda.

MCA: After having so many books already published, what’s next for your writing endeavors?

I have projects in the pipeline in metaphysics, grief, children’s books, and in Westerns.

MCA: John, it’s been an absolute pleasure hearing from you. We wish you the best of luck in all the new projects you’re engaged in—please keep us posted!

  1. Thank you for bringing this to parents and children. It’s my hope that children will always be believed and won’t need to suppress or disconnect from the spirit world to be accepted.
