The Goat That Ate the Remote
Written by Eunice Pera Hafemeister; Illustrated by Alicia Schwab; Edited by Lily Coyle

This is the tale of Gertie the goat and the children who love to play with her. Specifically, this is the tale of what happens when the children bring the ailing Gertie indoors while they watch TV, only for the TV channels to change abruptly and mysteriously over and over again. Why? How? The child reading (or being read) the story gets a kick out of being in on the solution to the mystery before the children in the story figure it out, and the adult reading the story to them gets a kick out of the clever and fun illustrations. (My favorite is Walter “Chromite” reading the news!)

A Tail Tale
Written by Christine Kessides; Illustrated by Sarah Gledhill; Edited by Atmosphere Press

Will Wally be able to make friends in his new school?
When Wally’s new classmates aren’t so nice, he thinks maybe he doesn’t want to fit in with them after all. One day after school, he meets the Tailor, a magical figure who creates tails for the animals. As Wally tries on different tails, he also meets the Snake (who is all tail and gets bullied too). The Snake gives Wally a new perspective on friendship.
This whimsical, clever story shows us that everyone has something to offer—and that often, empathy is the best cure for unkindness.

Award-Winning Children's book — A Buffalo Out of Water

A Buffalo Out of Water
Written by Jeff Dunn; Illustrated by Nikola Aronova; Edited by Lindsay Bednar

“A Buffalo Out of Water” is the story of Wade the water buffalo, who was born in India and adopted by a family of American buffaloes. As his tenth birthday approaches, Wade wrestles with a question that makes his heart ache, “Why was I given away?”

Over the course of the story, Wade is whisked down a magical river where he reconnects with his birth family and discovers the real reason he was placed for adoption. Even though being adopted is still challenging, he’s able to find an extra measure of self-worth, comfort and peace.

The book is meant to be both a mirror and a window. For adopted children, it serves as a mirror, allowing them to see themselves and some of their experiences through the main character. For children who are not adopted, it’s a window into the world of adoption and some of the related experiences and feelings.

It is written by Jeff Dunn, the proud dad of two adopted sons.
