Spring has officially sprung! But between school drop-offs, meal prep, work, and everything in between, the thought of deep cleaning your home might feel like just another item on your never-ending to-do list. Don’t worry—we’ve got your back!
At Mom’s Choice Awards®, we know that parenting is a full-time job in itself. That’s why we’re sharing realistic spring cleaning tips to help busy parents freshen up their space without feeling overwhelmed. Let’s make spring cleaning less stressful and more doable!
1. Start with a Plan—Not Perfection
Instead of tackling the whole house in one weekend, create a simple plan by dividing tasks by room or priority. Focus on high-traffic areas like the kitchen, entryway, or kids’ rooms first. Even a 15-minute tidy-up can make a big difference!
MCA Tip: Use a dry-erase board or printable checklist for the whole family to see and help out.
2. Get the Kids Involved
Make cleaning a fun family activity! Young children can sort laundry, wipe down surfaces, or match socks. Older kids can handle vacuuming, organizing their toys, or helping declutter shared spaces.
3. Declutter First, Clean Second
Before you start scrubbing, take a few minutes to declutter each area. Less stuff means less mess—and less stress! Donate items your family no longer needs or uses.
Pro Tip: Keep a “donate” bin in the closet or laundry room year-round for easy sorting.
4. Embrace the Power of Zones
Break your home into “zones” and assign one zone per week. This keeps things manageable and lets you celebrate small wins. For example:
-
Week 1: Kitchen + pantry
-
Week 2: Bedrooms + closets
-
Week 3: Bathrooms + laundry
-
Week 4: Living room + car (yes, the car counts too!)
5. Use Products That Do the Work for You
Choose time-saving tools and natural cleaners that are safe for your family and pets. A good multipurpose spray, microfiber cloths, and a reliable vacuum go a long way.
6. Keep It Light and Playful
Put on your favorite playlist or audiobook while you clean. Set a timer for quick bursts of productivity. Celebrate small accomplishments. And most importantly, be kind to yourself.
7. Make It Last
Once you’ve done your spring refresh, create a mini maintenance routine to keep things tidy. A 10-minute nightly reset can work wonders—and give you a head start for the next day.

Great tips! I pretty much do my spring cleaning this way except I usually start with laundry so that it’s washing while I’m doing other tasks.
such great info ! Thank you for posting!
Thanks for the great cleaning tips! I especially like “start with a plan, not perfection.”
great tips thanks
I enjoy spring cleaning. Really good tips!
Great ideas. I try to keep it light by turning on some party/fun music.
Thank you for the great idea. I’ll keep that in mind.
Really great spring cleaning tips, I like the idea of listening to a playlist while cleaning. And I particularly like that you included cleaning the car, most people either overlook that or don’t even bother to tidy up their car!
getting the whole family involved in cleaning makes this chore more fun (and go faster) – family members are also more likely to do frequent small cleanups to keep cleaning manageable
decluttering first makes cleaning less overwhelming in a busy household
Great tips, sounds perfect to get organized. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the great ideas! I set a 5 minute alarm at the end of the day and each kid has his/her own laundry basket that they use to put their toys/books etc. in. It really helps!
